JaKarla Spiller is a native Houstonian and licensed funeral director with roots that run deep in the city’s Southside, which include extensive familial ties in Texas City, LaMarque and Galveston. She has been in the funeral industry for the last 5 years and served as the Funeral Director in Charge at one of the city of Houston’s premier funeral homes from 2021- 2022.
She was awarded the opportunity to serve on the close-knit team that orchestrated arrangements and final disposition of the world-renowned services for Mr. George Floyd in 2020. This multiple day service held thousands of native Houstonians and A-list celebrities in attendance and was livestreamed all over the world and currently has over 219K views on YouTube.
JaKarla is a proud graduate of the University of Houston, Prairie View A&M, and Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service where the university bestowed her degree with “Honors and Distinction”. She finds her greatest joy serving others which is why she entered the funeral industry. Her highest spiritual gift is encouragement, and her life’s goal is to ensure at least one person or family is encouraged each day at the moment that life has reached its lowest point.
JaKarla moves in EXCELLENCE and sums her life’s work and purpose with the quote “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.” It is for this reason that she was honored as one of Houston’s “Fabulous Over 40”, amongst other prestigious accolades for her outstanding work and professional accomplishments.
